There is no easy way to describe the full meaning and essence of Tomi Ylinen. I suppose one could start by illustrating what he looks like by showing an updated photo of him, but he always looks different in every single photo that is taken of him. Therefore nothing consistent of Tomi can be captured in the form of a photo. The next logical step might be to review his thoughts and opinions so that his mind would reflect the real secret behind Tomi. But since he is a sceptic, his thoughts and opinions are subject to an everlasting change, which makes that kind of description irrelevant. How about skills? Certainly there must be something consistent there. One is however fooled by this illusion. As Tomi continously learns new skills he forgets old ones at the same rate, so what he can actually do at each moment in time is never the same. Granted that he now vaguely masters skills like guitar- and drumplaying and has the ability to make himself understood in five languages, but no one really knows when these skills will vanish so they could all be gone by tomorrow for all we know. Sometimes interests last forever, but that is not the case with Tomi. In his youth he was an huge dinosaur fan. He read all the books and collected all the things that had any connection whatsoever to the giant lizards. At present time, one of his interests is resting. Resting is pretty much the only thing he has the energy left to do every day after the rough and intellectual challenges he faces as a PhD student in KTH. From time to time he has been seen watching large amounts of movies and Star Trek episodes, practising Aikido and observing various astronomical events, but next month the activities may or may not be totally different. One could of course just define Tomi by his name which has been the same since 1982, but since it can and is pronounced in many different ways by different people and the only people who actually pronounce it right are finnish people, no consistency can be found in his name either. That leaves us with his form. However, that has been subject to change during his youth so there is no way to be sure that he will stay in the present form. Tomi just is and cannot be uniquely or consistently defined. To know Tomi one must therefore experience Tomi in real life.
